HISTORICAL GRAMMAR OF FRENCH

During the course, the main stages of development of the French language are described, since the classic Latin until the present, in its phonetical, morphological and syntactic aspects. Analyses of selected ancient-French texts follow (translation into modern French and into Polish, ethymology of selected forms, their evolution and syntactic functions).

The knowledge of the rules of historical grammar allows students to understand the evolution of French since Latin until now, as well as to read and to translate ancient-French texts.

Credit: assiduity, 2 tests per term passed.

Written examination takes place during the spring session.
