This course will help the students to perfect their knowledge of French, as they will translate texts (The sources and subjects are the following: press, documents concerning the functioning of enterprises, finance, banking, business, exchange, judicature, European Union etc. The press texts and other documents are always up-to-date.
Credit: assiduity, activity, one test and one marked translation in the end of the term.
This is an obligatory course for the Translation section.

Ist year:
During this course students will learn more about the use of tenses and articles, as well as of referrng other's words (direct and indirect speech). They may also acquire a systematic knowledge of morphology.

IInd year:
Besides the continuation of the study begun in the previous year (tenses and articles), students will analyze syntactic and semantic ways of expressing logical relationships inside a sentence and between sentences.

This course will help the students to master techniques of writing résumés (active reading, decoding logical relationships within the text, analysis of the vocabulary, reviewing of grammar and stylistics).
It prepares one directly to write Bachelor and M.A. theses. The prefessional life, whatever its domain and the post concerned, requires as well to read texts actively, to understand perfectly what one has read.
Programme:
1. study of formal specificity of the résumé and the summary - synthèse when compared to the compte rendu
2. work on texts: reading and analysis of literary, press and popular science texts.
3. writing of réumés; discussion and comparison of different résumés of the same text.

Written examinaton in the winter or the summer session.

Students will perfect their knowledge of French by translating into that language Polish texts form the press, scientific news, literary critics etc.
Credit: assiduity, activity, 1-2 tests, composition (as a homework).
Written examination: translation into French of a Polish text (about 25 lines typewritten).
FRENCH IN PRACTICE: TRANSLATION OF FILM DIALOGUES

Overlapping subtitling and dubbing, the translation of film dialogues (full-length & short films) is submitted to some specific constraints: erasing speech marks, domination of parataxis, dominant function of cultural context & pictures, frequent use of vulgar words.
