The students follow a curriculum agreed with the Institute's Erasmus coordinator, which permits domestic acknowledgement of a semester spent in a university abroad. All persons benefiting from the exchange emphasise the doubtless advantage of spending half a year in a European university, mainly French - everyday practice in the French language in real-life situations, direct contact with native users of the language and culture of the country they are staying in. This is what one of the programme participants said:
"The Socrates scholarship was for me a dream come true. For a long time I wanted to stay for a longer period abroad, to see what day-to-day life there was like, not holidays or a seasonal job. I was somewhat apprehensive of what lay in store for me, but it turned out to be a wonderful adventure. I had decided to go to Germany. French in German? Why not? At the very beginning what was the biggest surprise was the University, which was very well prepared to accommodate foreigners, there were friendly and helpful people around - you couldn't get lost, even not speaking the language. I was accommodated in a hall of residence (100 m from the Faculty, no more long hours to commute!) and this literally forced me to open up to other people, after all we were staying under one roof. Then semester I was so apprehensive of passed definitely too fast and I was seriously considering staying longer. Unfortunately business back in Poland was calling. After this one semester what remained were vivid memories, a wealth of new friends and lots of previously unknown experiences. A whole new world in my life. Me and my friends we stay in touch and whenever possible we arrange meetings in Warsaw, Wrocław, Prague, Nancy or Barcelona. After all Socrates is about people from the whole world. I cannot even imagine missing this opportunity. I am glad that I had the scholarship and that it was such a great experience."
